Recitals
Performance
is at the heart of our courses
Magical atmosphere
On the second night of the course, the tutor performs a recital for our participants – a very popular feature of our courses. We explore what makes these concerts so special…
“The amazing house with the crackling log fire, and beautiful piano… was a truly priceless experience”. Performed in our historic oak-panelled recital hall, with a traditional smoky log fire in the winter, you will be able to relax after a jam-packed day!
Views of the Weald
… and the hop fields in Summer! Finchcocks is nestled away in the idyllic Kent countryside – only a stone’s throw away from National Trust’s Scotney Castle. The view from our recital hall promises fantastic views of Little Scotney Farm and Kilndown woods. It is the perfect setting to unwind and enjoy some beautiful music.
Intimacy of the venue
Our recitals embody the spirit of the ‘Salon style’ performances of yesteryear, when chamber music and recital were performed in cosy, intimate settings – often the family home. Arguably this is a style of performance we have lost, with our busy and fast paced lifestyles. Finchcocks recitals will take you back to a simpler time; You can expect music, wine and good company at all our Saturday Evening recitals.
Repertoire
Our professional pianists perform repertoire from Chopin to Gershwin. Recent themes have included:
Song transcriptions from Brahms to Gerschwin
Chopin from Memory
A Lecture Recital on performing selected works by Brahms
The Bösendorfer piano
Finally, our fantastic Bösendorfer in the Recital Hall. This is a real favourite of our tutors here at Finchcocks. The richer sound of the piano provides its distinctive quality, with the full-bodied sound complementing the acoustics of the hall beautifully.
