Penelope Roskell is a dedicated and inspiring teacher as well as a concert pianist of international standing. As a teacher, she divides her time between working as Professor of Piano at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, visiting professor at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Chair of EPTA UK and in a busy private practice in north London.
Penelope is equally at home teaching professionals, teachers, students and amateurs. She has taught on many summer schools, including Finchcocks, Dartington, Chethams and Pianissimi and her London Advanced piano courses attract students from around the world. Her courses are friendly, supportive and inspiring.
Penelope’s award-winning book on all aspects of healthy piano playing, ‘The Complete Pianist; from healthy technique to natural artistry’, was published to great critical acclaim in February 2020 by Edition Peters. Previous publications include a DVD on “Yoga for Musicians” and a book “The Art of Piano Fingering”.
Penelope has special expertise in working with musicians with tension and injuries and is the consultant piano advisor for the British Association for Performing Arts Medicine, where she runs a clinic for pianists with injuries. She also has a website offering advice to pianists with injuries.
As a performer, she has appeared as soloist at major concert halls throughout Britain, and in over thirty countries in Western and Eastern Europe, the United States, Africa, Asia, and the Middle and Far East. She is frequently a jury member for competitions including BBC Young Musician.
