ADVANCED COURSE WITH ANDREW DUNLOP

Our Advanced course caters for people who are piano teachers or grade 8+ players working towards their diploma.

Our tutor for the weekend, Andrew Dunlop, is an examiner, adjudicator and the Company pianist for the Northern Ballet, having received his Doctorate from the Eastman School of Music in New York.

Workshop sessions will include:

1. Strategies for efficient and effective sight-reading
2. Advanced pedalling techniques
3. Improvisation for the classically trained pianist
4. How to warm up: best etudes and techniques
5. Tips on accompanying from a professional accompanist

Andrew will also be running a masterclass with the opportunity to explore the full range of repertoire brought by other attendees. Performance skills and interpretation will be the main focus of these sessions. Everyone will be asked in advance to provide a list of their chosen repertoire to encourage collaboration between course participants.

In addition to masterclasses, Andrew will provide 30 minutes of individual coaching to each attendee. During these sessions, participants may wish to tackle areas of technical weakness, explore further repertoire they are working on or focus on material covered in the workshops.

The group sessions will take place on our new Steinway model B, and each attendee will have the use of their own grand piano for the weekend, with food cooked by our in-house chef and with spacious accommodation in our grade 1 listed manor house with panoramic views of the Finchcocks estate.

We’re also very lucky to be able to see Andrew in action on our Bosendorfer at a pre-dinner recital on Saturday evening.
