Bought new in 2023, the Silent Yamaha is our cleverest piano yet! This wonderful instrument replaces our much-loved and newly retired “Bertha” (Broadwood chairman’s chamber piano of 1900). From Yamaha’s Conservatoire series it was made in Japan and measures and compact 5ft 3”. The perfect size for our foyer area!
It offers fantastic transacoustic capabilities, operating:
- as a normal acoustic piano
- by using its clever transducer attached to the soundboard, allowing the piano to be played with a volume control, or…
- with headphones for complete silence for those in the same room or passing by
Given its position next to our recital room, with the powerful Steinway next door, it’s great to play in silent mode when waiting for your lesson or – if you’re a night owl practiser – at 3am when everyone else is asleep!
