5-day Upper Intermediate Summer School with Warren Mailley-Smith
2 August 2021 @ 10:00 am - 6 August 2021 @ 3:30 pm
This course is being run by Warren Mailley Smith, who hit the headlines recently for performing the entire works of Chopin from memory in a series of concerts in London. He appears regularly on Radio 3 and Classic FM, and is one of our most popular tutors at Finchcocks.
The formal sessions will include a combination of masterclasses that help develop performance skills, workshops that help develop technique and individual tuition.
The workshop sessions will cover practice techniques, improvisation, memorisation and how to prepare for performances. Everyone will get the chance to accompany a singer or instrumentalist, and we’ll also run a few duet sessions.
As usual, everyone will have access to their own grand piano for the week including our new Steinway, and have plenty of time to practice in our vaulted recital rooms.
We’ll also have a bit of fun! In addition to a private recital in the hall of the main house or on our new open-air stage (weather permitting!), we’ll explore the private gardens at Finchcocks, experience a local wine tasting, be able to go for beautiful Kentish countryside walks to Scotney castle and on a trip to the private historic keyboard collection, owned and run by Richard and Katrina Burnett who used to run the keyboard museum at Finchcocks.
This course is designed for anyone playing at the upper intermediate / advanced level (with masterclasses split into two groups for the two corresponding levels), and will be run over a 5 day period.
