Playing the piano can be a solitary pasttime, and one of the great joys of music can be playing with others! We’re very pleased to announce David Hall’s fifth and final free Intermediate video tutorial on Accompanying is now available below.
In this final online lesson, David gives you the confidence and tips you need to start accompanying other musicians: Find out about appropriate stage positions for different instrumentalists; learn (and sing along to!) some vocal warm ups; discover three different types of performer and think about how best to support, rehearse with and prepare them for a performance.

Final in a series of five
David’s series of 5 Intermediate lessons have been released every Friday for the last month during lockdown.
If you missed lesson 1 on Practice Tips, lesson 2 on Harmony, lesson 3 on Pedalling or lesson 4 on Pop styles, you can find them on our blog page and catch up!
If this all sounds too tricky, we have also released a free online series for Beginner pianists, assuming no knowledge of the learner at all. Check these out here and please share with anyone you think would appreciate learning a new skill during lockdown (or after!).
Be inspired to give it a go
David was described as a “musical powerhouse” when the Sunday Times came to review one of his courses recently. He was an organ scholar at Corpus Christi College in Cambridge, and we’re very lucky to have him as our Musical Director at Finchcocks. He runs piano courses for adults of all ages at our weekend piano courses at Finchcocks – we have a grand piano for every attendee – incredible food cooked by our own chef – and luxurious accommodation in the recently renovated grade 2 listed Coach House.
If this sounds too easy, try out our online tutorial for intermediate pianists.
