Recital Room
After a two year long renovation project, the final area to be restored was the historic North Wing of the house.
Originally constructed as the kitchen for the manor house, it still houses part of the 18th century fireplace and has the 300 year old bread oven intact. We restored the plasterwork, using a lime plaster mix to match the original composition, and repaired the ceiling and cornice to create a magnificent space for recitals, recordings and masterclasses at Finchcocks.
The centrepiece of the recital room is our Steinway model B.
Bought from Steinway Hall in London, it is the model that is know as the Music Room Grand, and considered by many professional pianists as the “perfect piano”. At 6′ 11″ (211 cm) it is a beautifully balanced and versatile instrument with an incredible dynamic range and rich tone. Over the course of several visits it is being toned and voiced in-situ by Steinway’s own technician specifically to suit the acoustics of our recital room.
It is used at Finchcocks for recordings, recitals and masterclasses and is a firm favourite with our students. You can also see it in action on the ClassicFM website.
Our Steinway is one of nine grand pianos available during our courses. Our cellars play host to our other grand pianos which are arranged around a central vaulted atrium allowing our guests to practice to their heart’s content, joining in for the regular masterclasses and workshops that take place throughout the course.
The facilities can be hired for private groups or individuals can book on as part of our regular piano courses. If you are interested in joining one of our courses, or booking our facilities for a piano retreat or a conference, please let us know using the form below.
