It is said that the best improvised music sounds composed, and that the best composed music sounds improvised.
This may sound like a contradiction, but the trick to jazz music is actually playing spontaneously and with creativity, and at the same time hitting notes with intentional conviction.
Confused? Well, you’ve come to the right place!
Taking place on the weekend of the 6th-8th July, the course will include includes two nights of luxury accommodation, amazing food and drink, plus world-class piano tuition from Dr Mark Polishook.

What goes on at a Jazz Improvisation Course at Finchcocks?
The fun starts on Friday evening, with most guests arriving after work or from around 7pm. You will have some time to settle in to your private room in the stunning Coach House before meeting the other guests over a sociable dinner cooked by Finchcocks’ private chef.
After a leisurely breakfast and a stroll around the breath-taking grounds, Mark will lead a series of group workshops covering the essentials of jazz piano. The workshops will take place in Finchcocks’ atmospheric recital room, which is surrounded by vaulted practice rooms, each containing a beautiful grand piano.
There will be plenty of time for one-on-one practice with Mark, as well as private practice – plus lots of tea and cake in between!
In the evening, guests will be treated to a spectacular improvised performance courtesy of internationally accredited jazz musician, Mark Polishook, before returning to the Coach House for a delectable dinner.
Sunday will be a chance for guests to reflect on their learning, and perform to the other guests if they so wish.
