Finchcocks piano teacher survey

Finchcocks piano teacher survey

As many of you know, Finchcocks was re-launched earlier this year as a piano school, following the closure of the historic keyboard museum that had operated from the property until 2016.

Courses so far have been aimed at adult piano players of all abilities, with tuition provided by internationally acclaimed teachers and set in the newly restored recital rooms (each with a grand piano).

Accommodation is provided in the fully renovated grade II listed Coach House, which has eight en-suite bedrooms and spectacular views of the Finchcocks manor house and surrounding countryside. Delicious food is made to order by our in-house chef, with food, wine, tuition and accommodation included in the price of the course.

Following several sold out courses and a rave review in the Sunday Times, we’re very excited to announce that we are planning a programme of courses in 2019 specifically aimed at piano teachers.

We need your help!

There are approximately 15,000 piano teachers in the UK, but as one of our recent course participants pointed out, there is very little in the way of continuing professional development for teachers, particularly in the south east of England.

So in collaboration with Graham Fitch (who runs the Piano Teachers’ Course UK), and Penelope Roskell (Professor of Piano at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance) and our Musical Director, David Hall, we are currently designing a programme of courses, specifically designed around the needs of professional piano teachers.

So if you are a professional piano teacher, we would like your feedback – please take our survey and tell us what you need!

To coincide with the launch of the new ABRSM syllabus for the piano, we’re aiming to launch a teachers’ course that specifically explores the new repertoire list and also helps teachers develop techniques for helping their students prepare for exams, succeed in their aural assessments and improve their sight-reading.

But we’ll also be developing courses on teaching methods and technique that will in turn help your students become better musicians outside the context of exams.

Let us know what you think. We’d love to hear from you if you have any ideas on what we should include in our courses.

In the meantime, feel free to have a quick look at the video of one of our courses:
